As Pinoy, we always crave for rice meals since that is the usual food that we have in Philippines. When we first arrive in New York City we are already starving so after checking in at the hotel we immediately look for food and found McDonalds just across the street. We were excited to order 1Pc chicken and rice but to our surprise there is no Rice meals at McDonalds in NYC, huhu we are doomed. So we settle for burgers and fries.
The next day, our account manager – Dan treat us for our first lunch in NYC, he asked us what we want to eat and we immediately told him that we need to find rice meals. So we walk outside the office and immediately saw a store with different food stalls inside, you can choose any type of food and finally we found Rice Meals! The servings in NYC is huge and we cannot finish it in one sitting, so our lunch is also our dinner.
Another account manager – Rick treated us for another lunch on Tuesday. This time we are having Italian cuisine at EATALY. It is located near the flatiron. This is an Italian food hall, it is comprise of restaurants, bakery, market place where you can buy retail items and a cooking school. We dine here and had a very refreshing glass wine, different types of cheese and bread dipped on vinegar. The food is good but will not make you full but still a great experience.
One of the nights when we are walking to Grand Central we came across the 2 Bros Pizza. They are serving amazingly huge slice of pizza at very cheap price – $1 for 2 slices! The taste is OK and it still hot so that makes it even better.
We were touring around the Village in Downtown Manhattan and our boss man – Dan invited us for lunch. This I consider the best lunch and best restaurant that I ever visited in my whole life so far. The restaurant is called BABBO, I learned from google that this restaurant is a 1 Michelin Star, which means it has high quality food. You should have a reservation before going here. The ambiance is different from other restaurants, there is no Wi-Fi since guest are encourage to talk to each other. The place is very quiet, you can only here soft murmuring amongst the guests, soft music and clinking of the cutlery. This is an amazing place to spend time with the people close to your heart, and we are very lucky to be invited by Dan. as for the food, everything that served that day is palatable, but the best among the food we tasted is the spaghettini with fresh black truffles. We also had steak, ravioli and dessert that I already forgot the name. We have very few pictures inside since it is awkward to use your phone since no one is using theirs.
To try out a very American cuisine, another account manager took us for lunch at PJ CLARKS. The main menu are burgers, sandwiches and salads. We ordered burgers with fries and soda. The burgers are big that we cannot finish it. We also had a chocolate cake for dessert. The place is good very cool and relaxed atmosphere.
When we visited Macy’s Store which is just in front of our office, we went to a restaurant called ESTELLA. It is another Italian restaurant with a great location. The view from the windows is the Empire State Building and since its dinner time you can see the lights of Empire State Building and it is very fascinating. Since we are paying for this dinner, we are quite picky on what to order since we need to save as much dollars as we can. We ordered glass of wine and pasta for a cozy dinner. The food is average but we enjoyed our dinner.
Next one to treat us for lunch is our Account Manager Paul. Since he has an Irish blood, he brought us to an Irish Pub which is just a few blocks away from our NYC office. The Irish Pub is called Molly Wee. There are a lot of stories in this pub about our twin bosses but I cannot share that to you. My boss is well known in this pub since they are regular diners here. We had our steak and unlimited soda while our boss ordered shepherd’s pie since he loves potatoes. Unfortunately, I weren’t able to take photos of our food since I am busy listening to my boss’ stories. All in all this pub is a great venue, great ambiance, great food and terrific people.
